The Cartoon Style of Bruce Bolinger
Having trained as an illustrator early in my career I used to render realistic human figures for publishers that required such for their publications. Sometimes photo-realism was called for, sometimes simple illustrative linework for instructional purposes. I did manuals, books, slide shows, and catalogs, whatever the client called for. After a few years of hearing, "Hey, your drawings look funny", I decided to try cartooning. Initially they too were odd but as time rolled on and I logged endless miles of brushwork my cartoons took on a certain look, now recognizable by a few who notice such things. (I can supply the names of all three fans if need be). Whatever, the slideshow below displays a few of my cartoons, done for my first collection in a volume called "Just South Of Sane," which is no longer in print. It's been said that I lacked direction but you can see by my titles that it's just not true.
